Bubolz Kids Adventure Series formerly Nature Ranger’s is a monthly program that will introduce children to nature and give them the opportunity to explore the outdoors in a hands-on learning environment. Kids will explore 10 unique topics including winter survival, cross country skiing, maple syrup, geocaching, hiking, tracks & scat, froggin’ and more!
Ages: 6-12 yrs – children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult
Cost: $80 for Full Year – 10 Sessions or Pay per session – see costs in each program description.
December 7 – Natural Crafts – Time: 9:00 to 11:00 am
Spend time with your family using natural materials from the preserve and a little imagination to create some holiday crafts. Enjoy hot cocoa and get creative!
Jan 4 – Skins, Bones, and Unknowns
Kids will become wildlife biologists as they investigate the animals that can be found at the preserve. By looking at animal pelts, skulls, tracks, and scat, students will discover clues that can help identify common Wisconsin animals while on a hike through the preserve
Feb 1 – Cross Country Skiing
Kids will receive instruction on basic cross country skiing techniques. They will then have the opportunity to practice on our practice field and then groomed ski trails. Ski rentals are included for the kids in this program.
March 7 – Maple Syrup
Enjoy the sweetness of spring with the magic of maple syrup season at the preserve. Kids will learn the history and process of making maple syrup from the sugar bush to the sugar shack, and enjoy ice cream topped with real, 100% maple syrup.
May 2 – Birds of Bubolz
Come and learn about some of the many birds that call Bubolz home. Kids will learn what makes birds unique and go on a bird hike with binoculars searching and listening for them.
June 6 – Let’s Go Froggin!
Come check out one of Bubolz’s favorite summer activities! Kids will learn about frogs and toads that call Wisconsin home and then go to one of our ponds in search of them. Bring water boots or shoes if you have them.
August 1 – Insects
Kids will go out into both the prairie and ponds, with nets provided, in search of insects. They will learn about the insect body parts and some of their unique life cycles
Sept 5 – Nature Senses
During a hike, kids will focus on using their senses of sight, touch, smell, and hearing to discover the different aspects of the preserve.
Oct 10 – Night Hike
Come and explore the nature preserve in a whole new way. Discover the sights, sounds, and beauty of nature at night as we go for a hike through our prairies and forests. Please no light up shoes.
Nov 7 – Earth’s Elements
Earth, Sun, Air, and Water. Kids will learn about the four elements that shape our planet. We will explore the preserve, complete an experiment, and create a craft.
Dec 5 – Winter Crafts
Kids will be able to put their creative skills to the test, using natural materials from the preserve and a little imagination to create some holiday crafts. Enjoy hot cocoa and get creative!
