Curiosity, Reciprocity, and Stewardship

By supporting students as they learn to ask questions and explore through hands on science activities, our curriculum is designed to deepen connections between students and their surroundings. Our science lessons are updated to correlate and complement standards such as SEEd, FOSS, and NGSS. In addition, curriculum intentionally teaches skills in self-management, group awareness, responsible decision making, and communication.

Want a specific program but don’t see it on our website? E-mail us and ask! We are always happy to accommodate and create new programs!

As a reminder, it is chaperones, teachers and paraprofessionals job to aid students on field trip days. This can range from assisting students with tasks, to redirecting and correcting students. Our naturalists are versed in classroom management strategies; however, their main task is guiding students through activities exploring the natural world around them. If there is anything you would like our staff to know in preparing for your class, please let us know!

To Register for a program with the Log School House at Bubolz Nature Preserve:

Please register your class by following the link above to fill out a request form. Specify what program topic(s) you are interested in, and which program you would like the Log School House portion to be incorporated into.

Incorporating the Log School House into a Bubolz program includes:

Up to 45 minutes spent in and around the Log School House

Time for students to experience sitting in the Log School House and reading a story book

Practice writing with Quill pens and ink

A short recess with games of the 1800’s

Programs that can be combined within the same 2-hour field trip experience include:

Sensory

Trees

New Plants

Tracks & Scat

Birds and Beaks

All of these programs will have portions cut from them to allow time for the Log School house experience. This can affect what science standards are being met, and what activities are completed.

The Log School house building has a capacity of 30 people (including students and adults). If you are looking to bring out a group larger than 40 students, chaperones will be responsible in monitoring students at the playgroup while teachers and our naturalist guide half the students through activities at the Log School House.

If you have questions about this experience, please reach out to Hannah Wentzel at [email protected]
